Is anything colloquial?

I heard that Wordsworth's big revolution was in using colloquial speech in poetry. There is still a lot of clamor to use the demotic over the hieratic, but I have to wonder: are we now in an age where the colloquial is so determined by greater forces (advertising, schooling) that our revised aim should be towards idiosyncrasy? It would at least keep the options open.
