Up Mountain One Time
I finally read Up Mountain One Time. It's a children's book written by Willie Wilson, who was a teacher at my school on St. Thomas. It was so weird to read a book that takes place where I grew up. Every single thing that happened in the story, I knew where it was, even if it wasn't named. While I realize that most people don't grow up reading books that take place in their homes, I know that there are many people who grow up with the privilege of reading books that take place somewhere similar to their homes. For us colonial children, so many books fairy tales because, even though they take place in the real world, it may as well be the moon.
